Do we need a journalist?
January 12th, 2010 Posted in Boomer News, Journalism, TV News MediaWhat are we going to call our imaginary TV station dedicated to following the status of our nations most important issues and the world’s most important issues? The station, to be effective, has to attract an effective segment of the general TV watching audience. Will the raw science data do that? No. Will a scientist be able to do that? Probably not. (Not too many Carl Sagan’s available).
We need a journalist who is part scientist, part reporter, part columnist, and most important … part story teller. This TV station is taking raw science data, (Things that are prove-able) and making projections/predictions into the future. (which one might say is … being a prophet … which is in the realm of the mythical). Lots of good story lines for a journalist.
Our best example for our TV station, (that has a shorter time scale), is the tracking of a hurricane that pops off the coast of Africa as a suspicious low pressure area until it finally hits the US mainland. The hurricane graphics attract more and more viewers as the hurricane gets closer & closer to the mainland. In our case, we need to attract people to the impending crisis or catastrophy, early in the game, while time still allows for corrections to be made. The 21st century is loaded with unsustainable growth problems that have curves, that need to be bent.
Do any of you kids, who might be thinking about journalism or science, find this interesting?

George,
I’ve been looking for some charts and graphs
and new things to consider.
OK ! Gramps….(your 9years older)
Let me then give you and the readers a company to consider …Valero. ( VLO )
Go to their home page.
Yes,it’s a refinery but before you draw any
conclusion be objective and read what they have been doing and how they stack up.
Folks if you wanted to make an investment
would this company be a good one to make
money on …long term …short term. Remember
it’s like school always do your own home-work. Watch the stock move and check the charts …one day, 5day 3mo, 6mo etc.
Market Watch a good site to use for stock
checks.
Ask me anything you wish about companies you might consider .. that’s how you learn pros
and cons to make a decisions. I love to share,I always want a person to benefit from
what I’ve learned. I’m not a protectionist.
It free’s me to go on to learn more.
Let’s hear your reasons … pro or con.
Life is always about decision make’g.
Objectivity always results in gain, consider the facts.
Subjectivity always loss, ignore the facts.
This is to be fun with personal growth.
If … you have any interest it could be the start of a profitable hobby. I love to see
folks grow in every way they can. That gives me more pleasure than make’g money myself.
Although that’s alway nice as well.
Respectfully
Bob

Hi, Thanks for the offer. I have never played the stock market with individual stocks. In 1989 I got involved with mutual funds when PE shut down and I used our profit sharing money. The 90s were good and the money grew very nicely. I got out when of most of the funds when it was at the top and then came back in when it recovered. Then I started to make the mutual funds a much smaller per cent of assets. I got out on the most recent drop fairly quick when it started to fall. I came back in at a much smaller level when it hit bottom. But, I have never played with individual stocks.
